Failure is Necessary
We believe a student athlete’s success isn’t defined by the number on the scoreboard at the end of the game, but rather by the fun they had playing, the relationship they made, and the values they learned along the way.
Failure is inevitable, and it provides an opportunity for growth and development that will prepare students for life. “Everyone makes mistakes. You would not be a good athlete if you did not make mistakes,” one student told us. It is time to look at failure as an opportunity to learn something new instead of something to be ashamed of.
It’s important for school leaders, coaches and parents to remember that failure, whether at practice or on the field, is necessary, not negative. Watch the video below to hear students speak to the importance of failure, and please share with students and parents on your teams.
