After The Game
After a difficult loss or disappointing performance, what student athletes need most from their parents and families is motivation, support, and a listening ear—not criticism. As one student said, “If I mess up, I know I messed up, so you telling me that is not necessarily going to help.”
It’s important that parents remember their role in education-based athletes and allow their student to communicate directly with their coach about opportunities for improvement, as this helps foster the student-athlete’s personal and professional growth.
Watch the video below to hear students explain the kind of support they need from their parents after the game is over—then, feel free to share this video with students and parents at your team meetings.
