InSideOut Best Practices: Houston Texans Coach of the Week

To celebrate the work being done by InSideOut partners, we’re highlighting their values-based leadership and culture-changing efforts here on the blog. Today, we’re featuring the Houston Texans’ Coach of the Week program.

Brett Stewart of the texans on the program

The Houston Texans Coach of the Week program honors high school football coaches that go above and beyond for their schools and communities. We try to focus more on community/school impact rather than wins and losses. We highlight/recognize them with a surprise visit at one of their practices and then recap it on the website. The award also includes a grant and other goodies!

This past season, like everyone else, we were unable to execute our normal game plan. So we decided to dig a bit deeper. We decided to enable our coaches to share their “Why,” and we called it “Why I Coach.” We allowed our award winners to do this by asking them a series of questions to get to core of why they decided to be coaches, leaders, and transformational influences in young people’s lives. Through quote graphics on our social channels (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) we were able to highlight/ share how special each of these men are to their school communities. We also included this on our website as well.

This was a huge success for us! The coaches were definitely able to feel the love and support from their schools as well as the rest of the Texans fanbase! Thanks for inspiring us to dig deeper to highlight these amazing coaches, and how important of an impact they have on our young people.
